“I was just observing him when I got up and wondered, ‘Is this MS Dhoni right in front of me?’” During my debut season in the IPL in 2021, I had my first conversation with him. I was pinching myself at the moment to be sure it was a dream. Meeting Mahi bhai is something I’ve always wanted to do, particularly after an international game. In a video that BCCI released, Jurel said, “Every time I’ve spoken to him, I’ve always learned something new from him, so I will hope that I get to meet him during the fourth Test at Ranchi.”

In the third Test in Rajkot, the wicketkeeper-batter made his Test debut. He was limited to playing in the first innings, when he scored 46 runs with two fours and three sixes in a confident display.

As a hard-hitting, lower-order finisher, Jurel thrived in the Indian Premier League, an illustrious T20 competition. Last season, he participated in 13 matches and amassed 152 runs at 21.71 with a strike rate of 172.73.

With a century and five fifties in 19 innings, Jurel has amassed 790 runs at an average of 46.47 in 15 First-Class (FC) games. His highest rating is 249. In domestic cricket, Jurel is Uttar Pradesh’s representative.

India declared their second innings at 430/4 heading into the third Test, having taken a 556-run advantage going into the second session.

The Three Lions lost the match by 434 runs after being bowled out for only 122 runs in 39.4 while chasing 557. Kuldeep Yadav grabbed two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed 5/41. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin both claimed a wicket.

Because of his all-around performance in the Test match, Jadeja was named Player of the Match.
