Test record for India at Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, including the 2016 India vs. England run-fest

In the third game of the series, India will play England in Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium starting on February 15, after an overwhelming victory in Visakhapatnam to tie the series. The location, which has not hosted a Test match in the previous five years, has intriguing statistics leading up to the big match.

In the two Test matches played at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, India has an undefeated record. In 2018, they defeated the West Indies, while in 2016, they drew with England.

at the first Test match at Rajkot, India and England staged a high-scoring encounter in which four visitor batsmen scored hundreds of runs in two innings. But in the last game played here, India thrashed the West Indies by an innings and 272 runs, with centuries coming from Prithvi Shaw, Ravindra Jadeja, and Virat Kohli.

In the Vizag Test, India mostly depended on the individual exploits of Jasprit Bumrah and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the former of whom scored a double hundred in the first innings and the latter of whom produced statistics that would win the match in the second. However, in the two previous Test matches held here, Bumrah, Jaiswal, and a few other members of the present roster did not play for the Indian team.

In the last Test match played in Rajkot, only KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Kuldeep Yadav were included in the playing eleven that defeated the West Indies. It may surprise you to learn that four current English players, including Joe Root and Ben Stokes, participated in the 2016 drew Test match.

Both Stokes and Root scored hundreds of runs in the first session and will be hoping to contribute similarly in the next one. Jadeja is the only member of the current Indian side to score a century at this venue, having struck a century* against the West Indies in 2018.

Bowling-wise, Ashwin has taken nine wickets in four innings in Rajkot so far, while Kuldeep Yadav bagged a five-fer in the second innings against the West Indies.
